Just had another thought re the jumbo jet/postage stamp vignette with examples of strategic brevity. One of the cleverest I have seen, (moral issues aside) is from a betting agency that has a division devoted to safer gambling (is that oxymoronic?), whose purpose is "Bringing excitement to life sustainably"

Thanks again Andrew for these transporting thoughts. If I could wipe out one stabilised practice, it would be "...where children of the same age are congregated to learn the same things". Research has shown that there can be up to a 5-7 year developmental difference between children of the same age in the one classroom. Maybe a 2 x 2 matrix could be structure-flexibility on one axis and individual-collective focus on the other.

Yes, I agree. I've spent a lot of time in Bali and have noticed that Balinese have their children relatively far apart (5 years) which means that the 5 year olds can carry the infants, while the 10 year olds help in practical ways, and the 15 year olds can pretty much run the household, under the supervision of the grandparents. The parents, meanwhile, are doing what parents do: earning a living. This means that age-based clusters of kids do form (a gang of 5 - 8 year old boys wandering out in the river banks by the ricefields) but, more importantly, age-independent clusters also are created. Having said all of this, the Balinese are also nowadays congregated into Western-style schools for their formal education.

Thanks Andrew. Love a good 2 x 2 matrix. Recently at our workplace we looked at a leadership matrix with Grace (concern for the person) on one axis and Truth (telling it like it is) on the other. The takeaway? Effective leaders hold this in tension as a Both/And proposition rather than an Either/Or one.

I need that Apple 2x2 matrix in my life! Nice way to structure + provide focus for offers.
