Being present What does it feel like to truly pay attention to something? And, are you ever in meetings where people aren’t? They’re there — but aren’t ‘present’? I’ve seen this too, so when I run a strategy meeting, I set ‘rules of engagement’. There are just four:
On reflection, when in work meetings I remember noticing the sense of disengagement when people had laptop screens (and sometimes phones) in front of them, and the lack of eye contact with the person speaking, and remember feeling a sense of 'rudeness' but at the same time thinking this just 'the way things are now'. Should have followed my instinct and called it out!
