On a more serious note, could it be that the ‘singular north star’ is actually a meaningful articulation of organisational purpose that guides and anchors ‘a whole lot of things done consistently over time’?
Yes, sometimes the 'north star' is an aggregation. One of my aged care clients came to a vision that all their residents are 'known and loved'. Each of those words were debated substantially --- and captured several very deep currents of meaning. Before we did this, they were conscious of a dis-ease that "Old people are really really lonely", which they could see every day.
