As the camera panned around the stadium and its sea of humanity, I felt an unexpected and uplifting surge of joy at what sport can do for us – the delight in being ‘carried away’, collectively, by something bigger than ourselves, just as you describe in ‘I Had Fun’ where I’ll definitely borrow your epiphany (however I might need some coaching on how to enjoy tax & financial meetings!)
Love the challenge to enjoy everything, even the tricky bits. And I am going to talk to my daughter about the origins of the word sport. I think at 13yrs she sometimes forgets the fun part in pursuit of the winning. And that isn't fun for anyone.
Our 17yo son was the same with basketball. Putting too much pressure on himself. Until we said, "First rule: have fun". He came back with a smile on his face.
I finished up a client meeting late yesterday and the owners said "thanks for today, that really helped". My response, "my pleasure, I love coming here".
I too have made the decision to only do work, and to only work with clients, where it is impactful, serves my and their purpose, and that I gain joy out of. Otherwise, what's the point? We may as well go and get a job elsewhere.
